China Visa Medical, London
The full Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination Form completed at our Harley Street clinic. £395 covers resting ECG, blood group, chest X-ray and infection screening in one visit.
China Visa Medical, London: the direct answer
A China visa medical is the Foreigner Physical Examination required by the People's Republic of China for work, residence (Z visa) and student visas. The £395 Medical Express Clinic package covers physical examination, chest X-ray, resting ECG, blood group and rhesus, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and liver function tests, completed in a single Harley Street appointment.
The Chinese embassy uses the standardised Foreigner Physical Examination Form, which is one of the more detailed visa medicals in our catalogue. Alongside the standard infection screen, the form requires a resting 12-lead ECG, a blood group and rhesus result, and a chest X-ray with radiologist report. Many applicants are surprised by the ECG requirement, which catches out anyone who books a generic visa medical.
Our Harley Street clinic completes the full form during the appointment, including the embassy-stamped photograph requirement and the doctor's clinical attestation. We have prepared China medicals for students, professionals heading to Beijing and Shanghai, and family dependants of Z-visa holders for decades.

What happens at your appointment
On the day
The full appointment takes approximately one hour, including the on-site doctor consultation, blood draws, urinalysis and the chest X-ray at the partner radiology facility a short walk from the clinic.
China expects the completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form returned with a clinic stamp on the applicant photograph and a doctor signature beside each test result. We complete and stamp the form on the day so it is ready for the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre.
What to bring
- Original passport plus two recent passport-sized colour photos for the form.
- The Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination Form if your visa centre has provided one.
- A pen for completing the personal-details section on the embassy form.
- List of current medications and any recent ECG or chest X-ray reports if applicable.
Report turnaround and validity
Standard signed report
+£100 where permitted
Full panel in one visit
Signed medical reports are typically ready within 3 to 5 working days. Expedited turnaround is available for an additional £100 where the destination allows it, with most expedited reports issued within 48 hours of attendance.
The Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination is generally accepted for 6 months from the date of signing, although some Chinese provinces request a fresh report within 3 months.
Common embassy add-ons
- •Mantoux or IGRA testing for student or healthcare applicants where requested.
- •ECG interpretation by a consultant cardiologist for applicants with cardiac history.
Common pitfalls to avoid
The ECG is the most commonly missed test. Generic medicals will fail at the visa centre if the ECG strip and interpretation are not attached.
The applicant photograph must be stamped across the clinic seal. We do this on the day; if the seal is missing, the visa centre will return the form.

+£100Common questions
Q.What is included in a China visa medical?
The Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination covers physical examination, chest X-ray (with radiologist report), resting 12-lead ECG, blood group and rhesus, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B (HBsAg) and liver function tests (ALT, AST). The price is £395 fixed and includes completion of the embassy form on the day.
Q.Why do I need an ECG for a China visa?
The standardised Foreigner Physical Examination Form requires a resting 12-lead ECG with the strip and interpretation attached. This is a Chinese embassy requirement rather than a UK one, which is why generic visa medicals often miss it. We perform the ECG during the same appointment.
Q.Can my UK GP complete the Chinese Foreigner Physical Examination Form?
In theory, yes, but in practice the form is regularly returned because of missing tests, stamps or photo overlap. Using an FCDO panel clinic that runs Chinese medicals regularly avoids the rework cycle and the additional cost of a second appointment.
Q.How long is the Chinese visa medical certificate valid?
The Foreigner Physical Examination is generally accepted for 6 months from signing. Some provinces request a fresh report within 3 months, particularly for student visas, so check with your university or sponsor.
Q.Are your doctors approved to sign visa medicals?
Yes. Our doctors are registered with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and have completed tens of thousands of visa medical examinations across every destination listed on our website.
Q.Where is the chest X-ray taken?
The chest X-ray is performed at a partner radiology facility a five-minute walk from the clinic. The cost is included in the package price and our team books the slot for you on the day.
Q.I have an existing health condition. Will it cause issues?
Existing diagnoses, recent surgery and regular medication do not automatically affect your visa medical. Tell us when you book and we will guide you on documentation so the embassy accepts the report first time.
Q.Can our company set up a corporate account for visa medicals?
Yes. We open corporate accounts for HR and global mobility teams sending staff abroad, with direct invoicing, payment on account and 30-day credit terms by arrangement. Most accounts are live within a few working days of the first booking. Email info@medicalexpressclinic.co.uk or call 020 7499 1991 to set one up.
Q.Can you handle a group of employees mobilising together?
Yes. We routinely run block bookings for project teams, with rolling capacity, a dedicated corporate account manager and embassy paperwork managed centrally so reports come back in the format your sponsor or visa house expects. For larger groups, on-site assessments at your offices are available for the routine elements of the medical.
