Private prescriptions in London
A private prescription appointment at Medical Express Clinic is an in-person doctor review at 117a Harley Street, London, for an established repeat medication, a new treatment or transcription of an existing controlled-drugs script; we do not conduct prescription reviews by video.
Our £50 prescription-only repeat review suits patients who have run out of, lost or travelled without a regular medication already prescribed elsewhere.
Requests for a new medicine, new symptoms or more complex health concerns require our full £150 GP consultation, which carries no separate clinic fee if a prescription is clinically indicated during the visit.
Controlled drugs transcription costs £250 and covers an existing controlled-drugs prescription only where you bring clear supporting evidence; controlled drugs are never initiated on that route.
Every prescription is issued at the attending doctor's clinical discretion after reviewing your history and documentation, and the cost of the dispensed medicine is paid separately at the pharmacy.

Full GP consultation
£150
For first-time requests, new medicines, new symptoms and anything clinically complex. Held in person at 117a Harley Street with no fixed time limit. When a prescription is clinically indicated during this paid consultation, there is no separate clinic fee for writing it, and you pay the pharmacy directly for the dispensed medication.
Prescription-only repeat review
£50
For patients who have run out of, lost or travelled without a regular medicine already prescribed elsewhere. Our doctor reviews each request on its merits and may approve it, decline it, or ask you to book the £150 consultation. Booking this slot is not a promise to prescribe.
Controlled drugs transcription
£250
For transcription of an existing controlled-drugs prescription only. You must bring clear evidence of your current prescription, and our clinic may contact the original prescriber to verify details. The attending doctor decides whether to issue a script within UK regulatory and clinical judgement. Controlled drugs are not initiated on this route.
How prescribing decisions are made
Every private prescription carries the signing doctor's personal GMC responsibility, so our clinician reviews your medical background, current dosage and supporting documentation before deciding whether a prescription is safe to issue.
Controlled drugs
Where you already hold a valid specialist or GP prescription for a controlled medication and can provide clear proof, our GP team can review it for transcription onto a UK private prescription (£250). Initiation of controlled drugs is never offered on the £250 transcription route.

When reviewing long-term repeat medicines, such as blood pressure, antidepressant or sleep treatments, we may contact your regular GP or original prescribing clinician to confirm dosage history and recent monitoring dates.

Clinical review
Bring photo ID and proof of your existing medication (such as a repeat slip, clinic letter or labelled packaging). The doctor reviews your request and may approve a prescription, decline it, or advise a full £150 consultation.
If a prescription is issued
You take your signed paper prescription to a dispensing pharmacy. Pharmacy charges are paid directly to the pharmacy rather than Medical Express Clinic; unlike the flat NHS levy, private pharmacies charge the market cost of the drug plus their dispensing fee.
Clinic fees and pharmacy charges
Our clinic review fees are £50 for a repeat-prescription check, £150 for a full GP consultation, or £250 for controlled-drug transcription. The medication itself and any pharmacy dispensing fee are paid separately at the pharmacy counter. Visit our Fees page for the full clinic price list.

Private prescription FAQs
Can I get a private prescription without seeing a GP?
The £50 route is still an in-person review by a doctor. It may be suitable when the medicine is already established for you, but the doctor may decline the request or require a full £150 consultation.
How much is a repeat private prescription in London?
The clinic review fee is £50 for an eligible repeat request, or £150 when a full consultation is required. Medicine cost is paid separately at the pharmacy.
Will you prescribe the medication I ask for?
A doctor issues a prescription only when it is clinically appropriate after review. Requests for a new medicine need a full £150 consultation for proper assessment.
Do you prescribe controlled drugs privately?
We transcribe existing controlled-drugs prescriptions for £250 when evidence and clinical judgement allow. Patients who need an initial controlled-drug assessment may book Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Ahmed Shoka via /specialist-clinics/psychiatry. Any prescription remains subject to his clinical judgement.
How much will the medicine cost at the pharmacy?
Private pharmacies charge the actual cost of the medication plus a dispensing fee. Prices vary by drug and supplier.
Will you contact my NHS GP?
We may contact your regular GP or the original prescriber to verify dosage or dates, particularly for chronic medicines.
Can I get a prescription while visiting London?
You can attend in person at 117a Harley Street, and a doctor will approve the request after review if it is appropriate. Bring evidence of your existing prescription where possible.
Is there an extra fee for a prescription during a £150 consultation?
No separate clinic fee when a prescription is clinically indicated during the paid consultation. Pharmacy charges still apply.
