Doctor-Led Mounjaro Weight Loss on Harley Street, London

Private weight loss injections in the UK are prescription-only medicines, usually GLP-1 agonists such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide). At Medical Express Clinic, a GMC-registered doctor examines you in person, checks baseline bloods, and only prescribes when you meet clinical criteria and the medicine is appropriate for you.

Our approach

Medical Express Clinic offers a doctor-led weight management service for adults who may benefit from medically supervised treatment for obesity, following a full clinical assessment on Harley Street.

GLP-1 agonists, such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy, are prescription-only medicines used to treat obesity and type 2 diabetes where clinically indicated. They can cause serious side effects if prescribed without proper assessment, monitoring and dose adjustment.

Our doctors have undergone detailed training in GLP-1 prescribing. We follow a structured protocol so treatment, where appropriate, is supervised by the same registered medical doctor throughout.

You will have regular consultations and follow-up assessments, direct access to your weight loss doctor for questions or concerns, and a private prescription only when your doctor confirms it is clinically appropriate. Mounjaro injection pens are purchased separately at a pharmacy and are not included in the £650 service fee. Book a consultation to discuss suitability.

Who this suits

Who is this service for?

In line with NICE and MHRA guidance, our doctors may consider GLP-1 treatment for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Suitability is confirmed in person; we do not prescribe based on an online questionnaire alone.

This service is for patients who want in-person medical assessment, baseline blood tests before any prescription, and structured reviews with the same doctor. It is not suitable for everyone. We do not start Mounjaro or Ozempic in type 1 diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is a history of certain pancreatic, gallbladder or thyroid conditions. Your doctor will confirm eligibility at your first appointment.

For a fuller overview of eligibility and what the package includes, read our guide on doctor-led Mounjaro in London.

In person vs online

Doctor-led in person, not an online questionnaire

Most weight loss injections in the UK are now sold through an online form, with no examination, no blood tests and no named doctor. We work the other way round. You are seen in person on Harley Street, assessed and examined by a GMC-registered doctor, and that same doctor reviews you at every appointment.

Typical online service

  • Online questionnaire, no physical examination
  • No baseline blood tests before prescribing
  • Eligibility based on self-reported height and weight
  • A different prescriber each time, if any
  • Pens posted out, limited follow-up

Medical Express Clinic

  • In-person consultation and physical examination
  • Blood panel (FBC, kidney, liver, lipids, HbA1c) before you start
  • Body composition scan, so we measure fat and muscle, not just weight
  • The same prescribing doctor at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16
  • Direct access to your doctor between appointments
Safety first

Our Safest Approach

Our service is designed to offer patients the safest possible way to tackle their obesity or diabetes. Included in our weight-loss service, patients will undergo the following assessment prior to a prescription of Mounjaro:

Clinical Consultation

A full consultation and examination by a doctor who has undergone specific and rigorous training in GLP-1 agonists like Mounjaro and Ozempic.

Body Composition

A Full Body Composition Scan to establish baseline metrics and monitor fat reduction accurately.

Biochemical Screening

Blood testing panel including full blood count, kidney function, liver function, lipid profile and HbA1c. These markers are taken at our clinic as part of the £650 package; we also offer the same tests separately through our private blood tests service, including HbA1c and cholesterol profile tests.

Our service is designed to be clinically delivered in-person from our London W1 clinic: your initial consultation and assessment, body composition scan, and blood testing are all included in the £650 service fee. Mounjaro injection pens are purchased separately.

About Mounjaro

Will I be prescribed Mounjaro for weight loss?

Our doctors follow prescribing guidelines for GLP-1 medicines used for weight management. We can only prescribe where clinically appropriate, usually for patients with a BMI greater than 30, or in some circumstances a BMI of 27 with one weight-related condition (your doctor will confirm). We may initiate these medicines if you do not have diabetes or if you have type 2 diabetes, but we do not start Mounjaro or Ozempic if you have type 1 diabetes.

How does Mounjaro work for weight loss?

It contains Tirzepatide, a drug mimicking glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a naturally occurring hormone that the gut releases after every meal. The injection binds to GLP-1 receptors in the brain to increase the feeling of fullness and control appetite. This helps reduce food intake, decreasing the calories consumed, which aids weight loss.

Is this weight loss treatment right for me?

Your doctor will assess your circumstances to determine whether weight loss treatment is suitable. Adults who are overweight or have obesity with at least one weight-related condition like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure can use this injection. The doctor will also evaluate the following to determine if you are suitable:

  • Current health condition
  • Medical history
  • Current medications

What does the clinical evidence show?

Clinical trials of tirzepatide (Mounjaro) in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related conditions have reported greater average weight change than placebo groups. Trial results are population averages; they do not predict what any individual patient will experience.

Your doctor will discuss whether treatment may be appropriate for you, what monitoring is involved, and that outcomes depend on individual factors including lifestyle, tolerability and starting weight. We do not guarantee any specific weight change.

How to use Mounjaro?

This is a prescription medication administered through subcutaneous injection once weekly. It should be administered on the same day weekly and preferably at the same time. Treatment requires gradually increasing your dose monthly over five months until you achieve your desired effect or the side effects become intolerable.

Phase Month Dosage per week
Start Month 1 (week 1 - 4) 2.5mg
Step up Month 2 (week 5 - 8) 5mg
Step up Month 3 (week 9 - 12) 7.5mg
Step up Month 4 (week 13 - 16) 10mg
Stay Month 5 (from week 17) 12.5mg / 15mg

How can I administer the Mounjaro injection?

This is a self-administered subcutaneous injection (under the skin). The best sites are the front of your upper arm, thigh, or abdomen. Ensure you don't inject into muscles or veins. If you unknowingly administer more than you should, consult your doctor immediately as you may experience severe nausea or vomiting.

Who cannot get Mounjaro?

Unsuitable if: allergic to ingredients, breastfeeding/pregnant, under 18 or over 75, severe heart failure, severe kidney/liver disease, or severe gut issues like inflammatory bowel disease. Always mention pancreatic diseases, gallstones, or thyroid issues to your doctor. We may initiate these medicines if you do not have diabetes or if you have type 2 diabetes, but we do not start Mounjaro or Ozempic if you have type 1 diabetes.

Where should I inject Mounjaro?

Abdomen

Inject into fatty tissues on either side of your navel. Avoid the waistband area or any damaged/tender skin.

Thigh

Into the fatty tissues on the front of the thigh, between knee and hip (at least 10cm above the knee).

Upper Arm

Into the fatty tissues on the back of the upper arm, at least 5cm below the shoulder.

What are the side effects?

Common side effects include constipation, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhoea, and vomiting. Low blood sugar may occur in diabetic patients taking insulin.

Immediate medical attention is required if you experience: Yellowing of eyes/skin, dark urine, or severe abdominal pain (potential signs of pancreatitis or gallbladder issues).

How long before I might notice a change?

GLP-1 medicines work gradually. Some patients notice appetite changes within the first few weeks, but response varies. Your doctor reviews progress at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16 and adjusts dose or stops treatment if side effects are not tolerable. Treatment is most appropriate alongside regular exercise and balanced eating, as part of a wider weight management plan.

Can my doctor tell me how much weight I will lose?

No. Clinical trial averages are not a promise for any individual patient. Your doctor will set realistic expectations, monitor your response through follow-up appointments and body composition scanning, and adjust or stop treatment based on your clinical progress and tolerability. We do not guarantee a specific amount of weight loss.

Tirzepatide works, but it is a prescription-only medicine with real risks. It belongs with a doctor who has examined you, checked your bloods and knows your history, not with an online form. That is the whole point of seeing us in person.

FAQs

Common questions

Q.Am I eligible for private weight loss injections in the UK?

Eligibility depends on your clinical assessment in person. In line with NICE and MHRA guidance, our doctors may consider GLP-1 treatment for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. We do not prescribe in type 1 diabetes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there are contraindications identified at consultation. Your doctor confirms suitability; we do not prescribe from an online questionnaire alone.

Q.What is included in the £650 weight management package?

The £650 fee covers clinical care only: an in-person consultation and physical examination with a doctor trained in GLP-1 prescribing, a full body composition scan, a baseline blood panel (full blood count, kidney function, liver function, lipids and HbA1c), four follow-up reviews with your prescribing doctor at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16, and direct access to your doctor between appointments. Mounjaro injection pens are not included and are purchased separately, from approximately £200 per pen depending on dose.

Q.How does doctor-led monitoring work?

You are assessed and examined in person before any prescription is considered. Baseline blood tests and a body composition scan establish your starting point. The same prescribing doctor reviews you at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16 to monitor side effects, adjust dose where appropriate, and decide whether treatment should continue. You also have direct access to your doctor between appointments for questions or concerns.

Q.How much do weight loss injections cost in London?

Our doctor-led weight management package is £650. This covers your in-person consultation and examination, a full body composition scan, a baseline blood panel (full blood count, kidney function, liver function, lipids and HbA1c), and four follow-up reviews with your prescribing doctor at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16. Mounjaro injection pens are not included in the £650 and are purchased separately, from approximately £200 per pen depending on dose.

Q.Is this a doctor-led weight loss service?

Yes. Unlike online questionnaire services, you are seen in person at our Harley Street clinic. A GMC-registered doctor examines you, reviews your baseline blood tests and history before prescribing, and the same doctor reviews you at each follow-up. You also have direct access to your doctor between appointments.

Q.Can I get Mounjaro privately in London?

We offer private Mounjaro (tirzepatide) assessment on Harley Street for adults who may meet clinical criteria. Suitability is confirmed in person by your doctor, normally a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition. We do not prescribe to anyone with type 1 diabetes, and we follow NICE and MHRA guidance throughout. A prescription is only issued when clinically appropriate.

Q.Will I be prescribed Mounjaro for weight loss?

Our doctors follow prescribing guidelines for GLP-1 medicines used for weight management. We can only prescribe where clinically appropriate, usually for patients with a BMI greater than 30, or in some circumstances a BMI of 27 with one weight-related condition (your doctor will confirm). Prescription is not guaranteed at the first appointment.

Q.How does Mounjaro work for weight loss?

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which acts on GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite regulation. It may increase the feeling of fullness and reduce food intake when prescribed and tolerated. It is a prescription-only medicine and is only supplied following clinical assessment.

Q.Is this weight loss treatment right for me?

Your doctor will assess your circumstances to determine whether weight loss treatment is suitable. Adults who are overweight or have obesity with at least one weight-related condition like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure may be considered. The doctor will also evaluate your current health condition, medical history and current medications before any prescription.

Q.What does the clinical evidence show about Mounjaro?

Clinical trials of tirzepatide in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related conditions have reported greater average weight change than placebo groups. Trial results are population averages and do not predict individual outcomes. Your doctor will discuss whether treatment may be appropriate for you and that results vary between patients. We do not guarantee any specific weight change.

Q.How to use Mounjaro?

This is a prescription medication administered through subcutaneous injection once weekly, on the same day each week where possible. Treatment involves gradually increasing your dose over several months until your doctor determines the appropriate level or side effects become intolerable. You will have regular reviews with your prescribing doctor and can ask questions at any point.

Q.What is the ideal Mounjaro dose schedule for weight loss?

Increasing your dose gradually over time may help reduce unwanted side effects such as diarrhoea, vomiting and nausea. Your doctor will set your dose schedule based on your response and tolerability. You should continue appropriate exercise and dietary changes alongside treatment, as advised by your doctor.

Q.How can I administer the Mounjaro injection?

This is a self-administered subcutaneous injection (under the skin). The best sites are the front of your upper arm, thigh, or abdomen. Do not inject into muscle or veins. If you administer more than prescribed, contact your doctor or go to hospital immediately as you may experience severe nausea or vomiting.

Q.Who cannot get Mounjaro?

You may be unsuitable if you have known allergies to ingredients, are breastfeeding, pregnant or planning to conceive, are over 75 or under 18, have severe heart failure, severe kidney or liver disease, or severe gut problems such as inflammatory bowel disease or gastroparesis. Always tell your doctor about pancreatic disease, gallstones or thyroid conditions. We do not start Mounjaro or Ozempic in type 1 diabetes.

Q.Where should I inject Mounjaro?

This is a subcutaneous injection, meaning you inject it under the skin. The recommended sites are the thigh, upper arm, or abdomen. Rotate the injection site each week to avoid skin irritation.

Q.What are the side effects of taking the medication?

Like any medication, GLP-1 medicines can cause side effects, though not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include constipation, headache, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, fatigue, diarrhoea and vomiting. Low blood sugar may occur in patients with diabetes taking insulin or sulfonylureas. Seek urgent medical attention for yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, or severe abdominal pain.

Q.How long before I might notice a change?

GLP-1 medicines work gradually. Some patients notice appetite changes within the first few weeks, but response varies. Your doctor reviews progress at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16. Outcomes depend on individual factors and are not guaranteed.

Q.Can my doctor tell me how much weight I will lose?

No. Clinical trial averages are not a promise for any individual patient. Your doctor will set realistic expectations, monitor your response through follow-up appointments and body composition scanning, and adjust or stop treatment based on your clinical progress. It contains tirzepatide, which acts on GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite regulation. It is only supplied following in-person clinical assessment.

Q.How long can I take the injection?

The duration of treatment depends on your health, response, side effects and individual circumstances. Your doctor will review whether continued treatment remains appropriate at each follow-up appointment.

Q.What diet should I follow on Mounjaro treatment?

Your doctor will advise on dietary changes appropriate to your circumstances. A calorie-controlled, balanced diet is usually recommended alongside treatment, as part of a wider weight management plan.
