Prostate screening at Medical Express Clinic is a doctor-led assessment across three tiers (Essential, Advanced and Elite), matched to your age, family history, previous PSA readings and the level of detail you want.
Every tier goes beyond an isolated blood test by combining a GP consultation and physical examination with PSA testing interpreted in clinical context and an in-person doctor review.
Essential prostate screening costs £349, Advanced costs £699 and adds our broader Prostate Profile (total and free PSA with free-to-total ratio), and Elite costs £1,299 and adds a bi-parametric prostate MRI.
A multi-parametric MRI upgrade is available on Elite prostate screening for an additional £400 when offered.
Turnaround varies by tier because a single PSA assay, the extended Prostate Profile and a prostate MRI report return on different schedules.

Essential, Advanced or Elite
The three tiers
Essential prostate screening
£349
Includes a GP consultation, physical examination, total PSA blood test and an in-person doctor review of your result. Ideal when you want a clear clinical examination and a baseline PSA check.
Advanced prostate screening
£699
Includes everything in Essential plus our broader Prostate Profile and an in-person doctor review. The Prostate Profile measures total PSA and free PSA to calculate your free-to-total PSA ratio, giving your GP sharper laboratory context around a borderline or mildly raised total PSA.
Elite prostate screening
£1,299
Includes everything in Advanced plus a bi-parametric prostate MRI and an in-person doctor review, suited to men who want direct structural imaging alongside their blood profile and examination. A multi-parametric MRI upgrade can be added for £400 when offered.
If you have active urinary symptoms or have noticed a testicular change that needs assessing straight away, start with a men's urology assessment.
What a PSA result can and cannot show
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by both normal and abnormal prostate cells. It is a helpful marker, provided a doctor interprets it alongside your age, examination and clinical history.
How PSA is interpreted
Because PSA can rise with benign prostate enlargement, inflammation or recent urinary infection, a raised PSA does not automatically mean cancer. Equally, a single normal PSA cannot rule out every prostate condition. Your GP reads your PSA alongside your age, symptoms, physical examination and, on higher tiers, your free-to-total PSA ratio or prostate MRI before advising whether simple reassurance, a repeat test or a specialist referral is sensible.
When you are booking because of new urinary symptoms rather than a planned check, a men's urology assessment is the right first appointment.
What happens when the results are back
Every tier includes a dedicated in-person results review with your GP so you are never left trying to interpret numbers or radiology language on your own.
After the results
Results vary by tier because a single PSA assay, the extended Prostate Profile and a prostate MRI report return on different schedules. Once your complete results are ready, your GP sits down with you to explain what they show and whether routine monitoring, repeat testing or referral to a consultant urologist is appropriate.

Screening, symptoms or a wider check
If you have urinary frequency, a weak stream, nocturia, a testicular lump or a wider sexual-health concern, book a men's urology assessment (£150 GP consultation) so your doctor can assess your symptoms directly.

Acute inability to pass urine, sudden severe testicular pain or chest pain requires 999 or A&E immediately rather than a planned screening appointment.
