What is hyfrecator treatment?

Hyfrecator treatment uses a controlled electrical current delivered through a fine probe to destroy wart tissue on contact. It is a precise electrosurgical technique widely used for the removal of genital, anal, and other warts.

The procedure is quick, typically taking 15 to 30 minutes. Local anaesthetic is applied beforehand so the treatment is well tolerated. In most cases, warts are removed in a single session.

Hyfrecator treatment is suitable for genital warts (vulval, penile, scrotal, and perianal), anal warts, and other HPV-related skin lesions. It is more effective than topical treatments such as Warticon (podophyllotoxin) for persistent or multiple warts.

At Medical Express Clinic, all wart removal is performed by Mr Hikmat Naoum, Consultant Gynaecologist (FRCOG, GMC: 3047637). This is consultant-led treatment, not a GP procedure.

What we treat

 • Genital warts (vulval, penile, perianal)
 • Anal warts
 • HPV-related skin lesions
 • Recurrent warts unresponsive to topical treatment (Warticon/podophyllotoxin)

For men and women

Women

Mr Naoum treats genital and vulval warts as part of his gynaecological practice. Wart removal is carried out during a standard consultation with no separate referral needed.

Men

Male patients are treated directly by Mr Naoum. No urologist referral is required. Penile, scrotal, and perianal warts are all treated using the same hyfrecator method.

What to expect

1

Consultation and visual examination

Mr Naoum examines the affected area to confirm the diagnosis and assess the extent of treatment required.

2

Treatment options discussion

Your treatment plan is discussed, including what the hyfrecator procedure involves and what to expect afterwards.

3

Hyfrecator treatment same day

Local anaesthetic is applied before treatment begins. The hyfrecator is used to precisely destroy each wart. Most sessions take 15 to 30 minutes.

4

Aftercare instructions provided

You will receive detailed wound care instructions. Healing typically takes 7 to 10 days.

5

Follow-up if needed

For extensive or recurrent warts, a follow-up treatment session can be arranged.

HPV testing

We also offer HPV swab testing for 28 individually typed subtypes, priced at £225, with results in 2 to 3 working days. HPV vaccination with Gardasil 9 is available for both men and women.

Common Questions

Q.Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with us. No referral from your GP or any other specialist is required.

Q.Is hyfrecator treatment painful?

Local anaesthetic is applied before treatment. Most patients experience mild discomfort, which is well tolerated.

Q.How many sessions will I need?

Most patients need one session. Extensive or recurrent warts may require a follow-up treatment.

Q.Can I be treated the same day?

Yes. In most cases, consultation and treatment are completed in a single appointment.

Q.Is this available for men?

Yes. Mr Naoum treats both men and women for genital warts. No urologist referral is needed.

Q.Can you treat anal warts?

Yes. Perianal warts are treated using the same hyfrecator method.

Q.Creams have not worked - what next?

Hyfrecator is the standard next step after failed topical treatment such as Warticon (podophyllotoxin). Physical removal is more effective for persistent warts.

Q.Will this affect my partner?

HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. We recommend your partner is aware and considers HPV testing. See our HPV vaccination page for prevention.
