What to Expect During the MRI
The scan takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. You'll lie on a table that slides into the MRI scanner (a large tube). The machine makes loud knocking and buzzing sounds (ear protection is provided). You must remain still during scanning. Some people experience claustrophobia in the scanner, though modern MRI machines are wider and shorter than older models, reducing anxiety.
MRI Contraindications
MRI scanning is contraindicated if you have certain metallic implants (pacemakers, some older aneurysm clips, cochlear implants, metallic foreign bodies in eyes). Advanced Ovarian Cancer Screening (ROMA)
The Ultimate Female package includes the ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm), a sophisticated assessment combining multiple tumour markers:
- HE4 (Human Epididymis Protein 4): More specific for ovarian cancer than CA-125, less affected by benign conditions
- CA-125: Traditional ovarian cancer marker
