How our HRT service works

Our HRT clinic follows a structured pathway from initial assessment through to ongoing monitoring. Every step is doctor-led, with bloods taken and reviewed in-house.

1

Initial Consultation

A specialist GP reviews your symptoms, medical history, and any previous HRT experience. This is a thorough assessment, not a tick-box exercise.

2

Hormone Blood Panel

Your doctor determines the appropriate panel based on your assessment. Tests may include oestradiol, FSH, LH, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid function, liver function, and lipid profile. Blood tests are charged separately.

3

Body Composition Analysis

Seca 525 medical-grade body composition scan for baseline measurements of fat, muscle, and water distribution.

4

Personalised Prescription

HRT tailored to your symptoms, hormone levels, and medical history. Your doctor explains the rationale, delivery method, and what to expect.

5

Ongoing Monitoring

Follow-up bloods and consultations to assess your response to HRT and adjust dosage as needed. You see the same doctor throughout.

Types of HRT we prescribe

We prescribe a range of HRT preparations based on your clinical needs. Treatment is individualised; there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Body-identical (micronised) oestrogen and progesterone
  • Conventional HRT (tablets, patches, gel)
  • Testosterone for women (where clinically indicated)
  • Different delivery methods discussed at consultation
  • Treatment is individualised based on symptoms, risk factors, and personal preference

Who benefits from HRT

HRT is recognised as the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. NICE guidelines (NG23) recommend it as a first-line option and advise that, for most women, the benefits outweigh the risks when started before age 60 or within 10 years of menopause.

  • Women with moderate to severe menopausal symptoms (hot flushes, night sweats, mood changes, sleep disruption)
  • Women in perimenopause wanting proactive symptom management
  • Women wanting bone protection (NICE recommends HRT for osteoporosis prevention in at-risk women)
  • Women wanting cardiovascular risk reduction (when started within 10 years of menopause)
  • Women who have tried HRT elsewhere and want a review or dose adjustment

Blood monitoring

Regular blood testing is an essential part of safe HRT prescribing. We test the following:

  • Hormone levels (oestradiol, FSH, progesterone, testosterone): to guide dosage and confirm adequate absorption
  • Liver function and lipid profile: safety monitoring, particularly for oral preparations
  • Thyroid function: thyroid disorders can mimic or overlap with menopausal symptoms and should be excluded
  • Full blood count: baseline haematological assessment

Common Questions

Q.Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with our clinic. No referral is needed.

Q.Can I get HRT at my first appointment?

Yes, if clinically appropriate. Your doctor will assess your symptoms and medical history during the consultation. Blood tests may be recommended and are charged separately. Results may be needed before dose adjustment at a later stage.

Q.What types of HRT do you prescribe?

Body-identical (micronised) oestrogen and progesterone, conventional HRT in various delivery methods (patches, gel, tablets), and testosterone for women where clinically indicated. Treatment is individualised to your symptoms, risk factors, and preference.

Q.How often will I need follow-up?

Typically at 3 months after starting or changing HRT, then every 6 to 12 months for routine monitoring. Your doctor will advise based on your response to treatment.

Q.Is HRT safe?

NICE guidelines (NG23) recommend HRT as the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. For most women under 60, or within 10 years of menopause, the benefits outweigh the risks. Your doctor will discuss your individual risk profile at your consultation.

Q.Can I transfer from another HRT provider?

Yes. Bring your current prescription and any recent blood results. We can continue or adjust your treatment based on a clinical review.
