Confidential Sexual Health Services

Whatever brought you here, this stays between you and your doctor. If a recent encounter has you worried, your visit is handled discreetly and confidentially, without judgement. As sexual health services form part of our multidisciplinary practice, nobody needs to know why you're here.

If you are experiencing symptoms and need discreet, professional advice, your doctor at Medical Express Clinic will help you choose the right tests and explain any treatment that may be needed.

If you are anxious about exposure, timing, or what happens if a test is positive, say so. Symptoms usually mean a screening package or a private GP assessment. If you already know which tests you need, individual tests start from £68.

Facts about the packages

Which package or test fits

If you are not sure which test to book, a package is the simpler start because a doctor helps you choose. Compare package prices and included tests. Male and female options are available where sample sets differ.

Symptoms or a first check

A package lets a doctor examine you and decide what else is needed. Bronze covers the four-test essential screen. Silver and Gold add infections that need a wider panel.

You need a 6-hour result

FAST Simple and FAST Complex are the 6-hour routes, and only for the tests named in those packages. Standard blood tests are generally available within 24 hours, while urine and swab tests can take up to 3 working days.

You already know the test

The individual tests list starts from £68, and those tests may be booked without a consultation. Men who have sex with men can use the dedicated MSM screening page.

Your appointment

What happens during your visit

The visit is private from the moment you arrive. You can use your own name or another name, and the conversation stays with your doctor.

01

Arrival

Discreet check-in. Use your name or a pseudonym. Brief registration with the team, typically about 5 minutes.

02

Consultation

Private discussion with your doctor about concerns, history and testing options, typically 15-20 minutes on a package visit.

03

Samples

Examination if needed, then urine, swab or blood samples, typically 10-15 minutes.

04

Results

Results go to you securely. FAST listed tests in 6 hours. Standard blood tests generally within 24 hours. Urine and swab tests up to 3 working days.

Typical visit time: 15-45 minutes

Before you attend

Windows and preparation

Timing matters for some tests. The doctor looks at when you were last at risk and tells you which test is useful now.

Timing that changes the test

  • For a urine chlamydia or gonorrhoea test, the clinic needs the first part of the urine stream. Medical Express Clinic will confirm preparation for the sample being taken.
  • The right HIV test and the right time to take it depend on when you were last at risk. Your doctor will advise you at the visit.
  • Herpes swabs are most useful when sores or blisters are present.

Useful to bring

  • Current medicines and supplements.
  • Date of your last period, if that applies.
  • When symptoms started and what has changed.
  • Timing of recent sexual contacts, as far as you are willing to share.

Results and the treatment path

If treatment is needed, the doctor reviews the result with you and explains the next step, including when a prescription, a further test or a later visit is the right thing.

A laboratory result is not a diagnosis on its own. Your doctor reviews the result with your history and examination before agreeing what it means and what happens next.

Screening packages include treatment when it is clinically indicated. That may be a private prescription, further tests, a follow-up visit or a referral. We do not promise that treatment will start on the day, or that every infection can be treated here.

HPV vaccination and wart removal sit on their own pages if that is the next step: HPV vaccine and genital warts removal.

If a partner needs testing, they book their own visit. We do not contact anyone else unless you ask us to share information.

When this clinic is right

Who this visit is for

You do not need symptoms to come, because many infections cause none.

  • Recent condomless sex with a new or casual partner
  • Discharge, pain on urination, sores, itch, pelvic or testicular pain
  • A partner has told you they have an STI
  • A routine check before a new relationship or when planning pregnancy

Many infections cause no symptoms. A clear history and the right tests are how you find out, not guesswork. In 2023, UKHSA recorded about 401,800 new STI diagnoses in England, and chlamydia remained the most commonly diagnosed infection.

Boundaries

When to use another route

If you are severely unwell, in severe pain, unable to pass urine, have a high fever, or are in immediate danger, a booked clinic visit is not the first step. Call 999 or go to A&E.

  • NHS 111 can advise on urgent symptoms that are not life-threatening.
  • NHS sexual health services and home testing kits are other options. This clinic offers in-person doctor-led assessment, examination when needed, and treatment included with packages when clinically indicated.
  • Walk-ins are welcome during opening hours, subject to clinic capacity. Booking a time is the surest way to be seen.

If you want a specialist-testing route rather than GP-led care, see our sister clinic Sexual Health Clinic London.

What we can test

Infections covered by the packages

These are the infections the packages can look for. Your doctor chooses urine, swab or blood samples depending on the test and your history.

Bacterial and parasitic

Chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, mycoplasma genitalium, ureaplasma, gardnerella and trichomonas.

Viral

HIV, herpes I and II, hepatitis B, hepatitis C and, on Platinum, HPV typing. Hepatitis B vaccination and HPV vaccination are available separately when appropriate.

What a result means

A detected result needs clinical review. It does not, by itself, tell you the stage of an infection or the treatment you will receive.

The most common reason people delay getting tested is anxiety about the process itself, not the result. In practice, most STI tests involve a simple blood draw or urine sample, and the majority of results come back negative. For those that don't, nearly all bacterial STIs are curable with a short course of antibiotics. Early testing means early treatment, and it means you stop unknowingly passing infections on.
