Mounjaro the Doctor-Led Way: Who It's For and What's Included

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection that can lead to significant weight loss, but it is a prescription-only medicine with real risks. Done properly, it belongs with a doctor who has examined you, checked your bloods and follows you closely, not with a one-off online form.

This guide explains who Mounjaro is for, what a doctor-led service includes, and why in-person care is safer than posted pens.

Who is Mounjaro for?

In line with NICE and MHRA guidance, our doctors can usually prescribe for adults with:

  • a BMI of 30 or above, or
  • a BMI of 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.

It is not suitable for everyone. We do not start it in type 1 diabetes, in pregnancy or breastfeeding, or where there is a history of certain pancreatic, gallbladder or thyroid conditions. Your doctor confirms suitability in person.

What a doctor-led service includes

Our doctor-led weight loss service is £650 for the clinical care, with Mounjaro pens purchased separately. That fee covers:

  • An in-person consultation and physical examination with a doctor trained in GLP-1 prescribing.
  • A baseline blood panel (full blood count, kidney and liver function, lipids and HbA1c).
  • A body composition scan, so progress is measured by fat and muscle, not just the scales.
  • Four follow-up reviews with the same prescribing doctor at weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16.
  • Direct access to your doctor between appointments.

Doctor-led care versus online prescribing

Most weight loss injections in the UK are now sold through an online questionnaire, with no examination and no blood tests. The medicine is the same, but the safety net is not. An examination and baseline bloods identify the people who should not be taking it, and regular reviews manage side effects and dose adjustments safely.

Frequently asked questions

Who qualifies for Mounjaro in London?
Adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, may qualify. Suitability is confirmed in person by a doctor, and Mounjaro is not started in type 1 diabetes or pregnancy.
How much does doctor-led Mounjaro cost in London?
Our doctor-led weight management service is £650, which covers the consultation, examination, baseline blood panel, body composition scan and four follow-up reviews. Mounjaro injection pens are purchased separately, from approximately £200 per pen.
Is doctor-led Mounjaro safer than buying online?
An in-person service includes an examination and baseline blood tests before prescribing, plus regular reviews to manage side effects and dose. This identifies people who should not take it and is safer than an online form with no examination.
