It has similar effects as that of thyroxine but it has a much stronger effect than T3.

Normal T3 level: 2.3 - 4.2 pg/ml
This test determines if there are any lumps present in the gland. It uses radionuclides that emit gamma rays, which can be either swallowed or taken in the form of injection. You will be asked to fast and stop taking your thyroid medication from a week before your test is scheduled. Apart from this, you will be asked to avoid eating shellfish as the iodine content in them might interfere with the results.
Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology or FNAC
This test is necessary if you have a swelling on your throat. A needle will be used to collect a sample from the area to determine the abnormality present.
